NCKP: The Piano Conference

Avendaño's work explores two innovative projects that bridge tradition, creativity, and interdisciplinary thinking. His first project focuses on pasillo music for piano, tracing the genre's evolution in Colombia from its 19th-century roots to contemporary expressions. Through historical research, analysis, and performance, Juan sheds light on the cultural identity embedded in this genre and its transformation across generations of composers. His second project, Sight and Sound, is a piano method book that integrates photography with music education, using visual imagery to support artistic expression, imagination, and interpretation at the keyboard.
